Tree Planting

6th Grade Tree Planting,

A few days ago, 6th-grade students from Durham Academy went to Hillside Park to clean up and plant trees. We also made posters promoting keeping our planet clean, and our advisory focused on water pollution. What we wrote on the poster was facts about what we learned, including the types of water pollution, such as groundwater pollution, surface water pollution, and ocean water pollution. Overall, I had a great time writing the poster.

There were two groups that went to plant trees:  group one and group two. Sadly, I was in group two. What was sad was that it was pouring when the second group went out to plant the trees. Even though it was raining, I still had a great time because I thought it was a great experience learning about the history of the park.

Some facts about Hillside Park High School are that it was the first school in Durham to serve black students. The school did not have a 12th grade until 1937. I had a great time learning how to plant trees, and it was a very fun experience with friends. I can’t wait to see all the trees grow and tell myself, “I planted that tree!” I thought it was very cool how the people who worked there and helped us did that, and how they really tried to keep Durham Beautiful. Overall, I had a great time, and the trip was WAY more fun than I thought it was going to be.
